Foxies rookies raring to prove worth in PVL Reinforced

Updated: Jul 14

Farm Fresh is positive about its chances in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Reinforced Conference with the inclusion of talented opposite spikers Maicah Larroza and Pierre Abellana.

Although the Foxies had a 3-8 record in the recent All-Filipino Conference, they managed to beat Chery Tiggo Crossovers, won a set against eventual champion Creamline Cool Smashers, and forced finalist Choco Mucho Flying Titans to five sets.

The 5-foot-3 Larroza, selected fourth overall in the Rookie Draft, is known for her high-leaping ability.

“I was overwhelmed. I did not expect to be picked by Farm Fresh. But of course, I am very excited and I am looking forward to work[ing] with my future coaches and teammates,” the De La Salle player said.

“With a Japanese coach (Shota Sato) and Farm Fresh being a young and emerging team, I am very excited to share my skills with them and I’m also excited to learn new things from the Japanese coach and the system of Farm Fresh," she added.

Abellana, who played for University of Santo Tomas, was chosen 16th overall.

“Actually, I did not expect that Farm Fresh will get me. I wasn't able to join the training so super unexpected and thankful. Even if they did not see me train, they trusted me," the Cebuana said.

The other talented outside spikers of Farm Fresh are Kate Santiago, Chinnie Arroyo, Pia Ildefonso and Alyssa Bertolano.

“I need to be hardworking so that I will get more playing time,” Abellana said.

Farm Fresh will face Chery Tiggo at 4 p.m. on opening day at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City on July 16.
