DOLE warns of fake TUPAD offers in Siquijor

CEBU CITY – The national government's community-based emergency employment program implemented through Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) is not for students, a labor official said on Tuesday.

Lilia Estillore, regional director of the Department of Labor and Employment in Central Visayas (DOLE-7), issued this clarification after they discovered Facebook posts purportedly inviting elementary to college students in Siquijor, as well as graduates, to apply for and avail of TUPAD jobs.

“These online posts are not true. The TUPAD is not for the students. It does not offer them cash assistance. The program is an emergency employment program for the disadvantaged and displaced workers who went through the profiling activities conducted by the DOLE,” Estillore said.

She cautioned the public to be vigilant of the widespread misinformation online, especially about hiring beneficiaries under community-based emergency aid through short-term employment.

In a statement, DOLE-7 said it has no agreement with HUKAS (Hulagway ug Kasikas sa Isla sa Siquijor) regarding TUPAD program.

“The department has no affiliations with them, neither for TUPAD nor the rest of our programs. What they are spreading online is purely malicious and fraudulent,” she said, adding that agency projects are not done through social media platforms.

Estillore said the labor agency has assigned personnel who would look into the profiling of the beneficiaries to ensure that those on the list comply with guidelines. (PNA)
