Bicolanos shine in national dancesport tourney

CEBU CITY – The Magayon DanceSport Team of Legazpi, Albay dominated the Open Juvenile 1-D1 and 1-D2, and 1-B in the Latin category of the Philippine DanceSport Federation, Inc (PDSFI) 3rd Quarter National Championships at Cebu City Waterfront Hotel and Casino grand ballroom here Saturday.


Cyrus Aurelius Riñon collected three gold medals from the Open Juvenile 1-B (with Ruth Marclene Maranan), and Juvenile 1-D1 and 1-D2 (with Erin Lois Cueto).


"This is my first time to win and I am very happy," the nine-year-old Cueto said after securing the gold medal in only her second tournament.


She competed in a national event in June.


The three students from Albay Central School in Legazpi City are trained by Jef and Kate Rizo.


Meanwhile, Jake Decena Jr. and Alexandreia Pigar (GenSan DST) finished second in the Juvenile 1-D2 class.


Klay Andrew Grengia and Franches Gabe Nelmida (Danao DST) placed third.


Decena and Pigar settled for third in the 1-D1 class behind teammates Alexander Lakbao and Arshie Wenhon Lastimoso.


In the Juvenile 1-B, Dan Jhoren Rafael and Frances Jesse Rae Bolos (Santiago West) captured the silver medal while teammates John Migzroy Rico and Jenelle Ann Garcia settled for the bronze.


The PDSFI 3rd Quarter National DanceSport Championship continues on Sunday alongside the World DanceSport Federation Cebu Open.


Both events are organized by the DanceSport Team Cebu International, Inc., together with the Philippine DanceSport Federation Inc., Philippine Sports Commission, Philippine Olympic Committee, Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation and Cebu City government. (PNA)
