Chairperson of the Committee on Overseas Workers Affairs and TINGOG representative Jude Acidre on Wednesday commended President Bongbong Marcos for his steadfast commitment to the welfare of 143 Filipinos recently pardoned in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) during this year’s Eid al-Adha.
This act of compassion reflects the administration’s strong dedication to safeguarding the rights and well-being of Filipinos abroad.
With over 600,000 Filipino migrant workers living in the UAE, contributing to vital industries such as healthcare, construction, and hospitality, the UAE is home to one of the largest Filipino expatriate communities in the region.
Rep. Acidre highlighted the importance of ensuring that these workers, who play a significant role in the UAE economy, receive the support and protection they deserve.
Rep. Acidre also expressed his sincere gratitude to the UAE government for their kindness and commitment to upholding mercy and humanity.
“Their generosity not only brings relief and hope to our kababayans but also strengthens the deep ties of friendship between the Philippines and the UAE,” he remarked.
As Chairperson of the Committee on Overseas Workers Affairs, Rep. Acidre reaffirmed his dedication to advocating for stronger protections for overseas Filipino workers (OFWs). He noted legislative measures such as the Magna Carta for Seafarers, which aim to safeguard the rights and welfare of Filipino workers worldwide.
“The deepening partnership between the Philippines and the UAE will pave the way for even greater cooperation in ensuring that no Filipino is left behind,” Rep. Acidre concluded.
