67 Baguio public schools receive furniture from shuttered school

BAGUIO CITY – Sixty-seven public elementary and high schools in this city will benefit from hand-me-down furniture, fixtures and supplies from a Pampanga nursing school acquired by San Miguel Corporation (SMC) before the 2020 pandemic.

During the turnover ceremony of 140 chairs, five teachers’ tables and 242 gallons of paint at the Department of Education Schools Division Office here on Tuesday, Acting Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Soraya Faculo said their schools currently have a 1:1 learners-to-chair ratio but they are thankful for the donations to allow them to replace old and damaged ones.

“Ang mga upuan na ibinigay nila ay may magagandang klase at malalapad, comfortable na upuan ng mga bata saka may lagayan ng gamit sa ilalalim kaya magiging comfortable ang mga batang gagamit (The chairs they gave are of good quality and they are big, comfortable for children to sit on and there is an area under the chair where the learners can place their belongings),” Faculo said.

Faculo said they have also partnered with SMC for the “Tamang Asal sa Kalsada” (Proper Decorum on the Road) values formation program for teachers.

Mayor Benjamin Magalong said SMC also donated 200 chairs to the schools division in 2022.

Micaela Rosales, special projects manager of SMC, said they have more items for donation.

“Please visit the place. Look for items that are still useful for the children so that these will not be wasted and destroyed,” she said during the turnover. (PNA)
