3 Dutertes eyeing Senate seats

By Jonathan G. Villaraza

From tight to tighter.

This looks like the fate of the coming  elections for the Senate next year, as Vice President Sara Duterte revealed that her father, former President Rodrigo R. Duterte, and brothers Mayor Sebastian Duterte and Representative Paolo Duterte are all running for senator in 2025.

In an interview with local reporters in Cagayan de Oro City,  Sara Duterte said:

“All of them are raring to run – PRRD (President Rodrigo R. Duterte), my brother Paolo, and Sebastian,” said the vice president

“Three Dutertes will be running next year. That’s confirmed,” she added.

Twelve seats will be available in the Senate election next year.

The Vice President resigned last Wednesday from her dual positions as Secretary of Education and vice chair of the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC).  Her resignation will take effect on July 19, 2024 to give the next secretary enough time to prepare for the post.

Sara’s siblings also have their own political careers.  Sebastian or simply “Baste” is mayor of Davao City while Paolo is the first district representative of the city.

Speaking in Cebuano, Sara also announced that Baste Duterte will be running for president in the 2028 national elections.

She said that her mother advised her to go back to Davao City to run again as mayor.

Sara also clarified that she is not resigning as  Vice President as she has many programs and projects yet to be completed in the Office of the Vice President (OVP).
