he Bureau of Immigration (BI) said it is deporting three more South Korean fugitives who were arrested this September by the agency’s operatives in Pampanga and Rizal.

Viado said the Koreans will be sent back to Seoul as soon as the BI board of commissioners issues the order for their summary deportation.

“They have been placed in our 

blacklist of undesirable aliens, thus they are perpetually banned from re-entering the Philippines for being undesirable aliens,” Viado added.

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has placed the Film Academy of the Philippines (FAP) under the administrative supervision of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), as part of government efforts to promote the development of the Philippine film industry.

Under Executive Order (EO) 70 inked by Marcos on Oct. 2, the FAP will be governed by a Board of Trustees to be chaired by the FAP director general and co-chaired by the DTI secretary.

 

Members include a representative of the Office of the President; the labor secretary; the director general of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA); the chair of the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP); the chairperson of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA); and two private sector representatives of reputable guilds, organizations, and associations in the film industry.

 

The FAP director general, who will be in charge of managing the day-to-day operations of the FAP, will be appointed by the President with the rank of Undersecretary, and will be assisted by six immediate support staff.

FAP members are designated to elect a vice chairperson who will assist the chairperson and co-chairperson in the performance of their duties and functions.

 

Based on EO 70, the FAP will have the primary function of giving due recognition to outstanding motion pictures, artists, and relevant stakeholders with the end view of revitalizing and further promoting the Philippine film industry.

 

The FAP is directed to establish and organize a prominent annual National Film Awards, which will recognize, promote, and celebrate world-class talents and outputs of Filipinos in motion picture arts and sciences.

 

The awards, categories, criteria, mechanics, and prizes for the National Film Awards will be determined by FAP, subject to existing laws, rules, and regulations.

Browsing the internet remains the top source of information for political news and current events among Filipinos, according to the latest survey results from political consultancy firm Publicus Asia.

The PAHAYAG survey, conducted from Sept. 15 to 19, 2024, showed that 67 percent of respondents rely on the internet as their primary medium, while 66 percent still turn to television for their news consumption.

The survey also revealed that social media, particularly Facebook, remains a key source of information for 62 percent of respondents.

"No change in top sources of information to political news and current events – Internet, TV, and Facebook – regardless of area and demographic. Word-of-mouth (from relatives and social circles combined) is also a key source, particularly among 18-24 year-olds," the pollster said.

State-run People’s Television Network (PTV-4) garnered a 24 percent trust score.

UNTV and Net25 maintain stable trust levels, while SMNI and Eagle News continue to decline, with fewer than two in 10 Filipinos trusting these outlets.

For print media, the Philippine Daily Inquirer leads with a trust rating of 42 percent, followed by the Philippine Star at 40 percent.

The Manila Bulletin, which dropped to 39 percent, ranked third in trust.

Manila Times placed fourth with a 33 percent trust score, while Manila Standard and Sunstar Philippines were tied for fifth with 26 percent.

The senatorial aspirants for the 2025 national elections reached 58, with party-list groups gunning for a seat at the lower chamber hitting 50 as of Friday.

On the fourth day of the filing period, dominating the key measures the senatorial hopefuls said they would push if elected was an end to political dynasties.

 

The aspirants also wanted to focus on legislation improving the quality of education and the welfare of teachers.

 

For senators, 19 filed their certificate of candidacy on Friday while 15 submitted their certificate of nomination-certificate of acceptance of nomination (CON-CAN).

 

Commission on Elections Chairperson George Garcia said he is expecting the influx of filers at the latter part of the filing period, especially for party-lists where at least 160 were cleared to participate in the polls next year.

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) has canceled the Philippine passport of dismissed Bamban, Tarlac Alice Guo, saying it was "fraudulently acquired" after confirming that her biometrics matched that of a certain Chinese national “Guo Hua Ping”.

 

Foreign Affairs Spokesperson Ma. Teresita Daza said the cancellation took effect on Sept. 30, 2024.

 

“Upon receipt on 18 September 2024 from the Department of Justice (DOJ) of the certification issued by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) dated 24 August 2024 that the biometrics of Alice Leal Guo in the Passport Database match the biometrics of Guo Hua Ping in NBI files, the DFA canceled the Philippine passport issued under the identity of Alice Leal Guo,” she said in a statement on Friday.

“Upon receipt on 18 September 2024 from the Department of Justice (DOJ) of the certification issued by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) dated 24 August 2024 that the biometrics of Alice Leal Guo in the Passport Database match the biometrics of Guo Hua Ping in NBI files, the DFA canceled the Philippine passport issued under the identity of Alice Leal Guo,” she said in a statement on Friday.

 

The cancelation, she said, is by virtue of Section 10 (b) (4) of the New Philippine Passport Law, which allows the agency to cancel a passport if it was “acquired fraudulently, tampered with, or issued erroneously”.
