T

he Marcos family is deeply connected to the teaching profession, with some of the members becoming educators themselves for some time, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. said on Monday.

“Mayroon lang akong idadagdag pa na guro sa pamilya ko — ang aking mother [former first lady Imelda Marcos]. Nag-start siya mula noong nag-graduate siya

ng high school. Naging primary school teacher siya bago siya lumipat at nag-aral ng college,” the President said in addressing the teachers during the 2024

National Teachers’ Day Celebration in Quezon City.

“Pagkalabas niya ng college, ganoon din nagturo uli siya. Kaya’t talagang — siyempre ang… Para sa amin malalim ang tradisyon ng edukasyon sa pamilya namin kaya’t napakalaking bagay po na

ako’y makarating dito ngayong araw,” he said.

First Lady Louise Araneta-Marcos was an educator herself, having been part of the faculty of the Northwestern College in Laoag City.

“Nagsimula siya magturo dahil dati practicing lawyer siya pero nagsimula

siyang magturo noong ako’y naging gobernador sa Ilocos Norte. Nandoon siya sa Northwestern College doon sa Laoag,” the President recalled.

SPEAKER Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez assured the country’s nearly 1 million public school teachers that the House of Representatives will pay specific and more attention to their plight, particularly in terms of salaries and benefits, as well as additional classrooms and equipment such as computers.

“In all of the challenges that you face, we in Congress must stress that we will not waver in our promise to give you (in the Department of Education) our continued support in your programs, not just for the laws that we pass, but for the betterment of our teachers as well,” he said.

“And this includes higher pay, more benefits, which should extend to more opportunities for training and progress of everyone,” the leader of the more than 300 members of the House declared during the culminating celebration of “2024 National Teacher’s Month.”

In a speech he delivered at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Cubao, Quezon City, the Speaker vowed that the administration of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos Jr., with the help of Education Secretary Sonny Angara, will not be making promises it cannot keep.

"Nagbubulungan kami ni Secretary Angara kanina at kinunsulta ko ang chairman of Appropriations (Committee) ng House, at sisiguraduhin natin na magdadagdag tayo ng mga classroom buildings at mga equipment, kagaya ng laptops at computers," Speaker Romualdez noted.

His announcement was met by cheers from the teachers and Department of Education officials attending the ceremony.

“Our promise will definitely not end up as mere lip service. The administration of President Marcos will make sure that you are equipped with all the necessary tools that will advance your chosen career, but will also ultimately redound to the benefit of our future leaders,” Speaker Romualdez asserted.

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and First Lady Louise Araneta-Marcos on Thursday brought the “LAB for ALL” project to Pasig City, providing free medical and other government services to 1,500 beneficiaries.

In his speech during the caravan, President Marcos expressed his gratitude to the First Lady for her “LAB for ALL” project as it bridges the gap in the healthcare system in the Philippines, especially in the 7,063 Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Areas (GIDAs), or those in far-flung areas.

“Sa mga lugar na ito, isang malaking hamon ang pagpunta sa clinic, health center, o ospital o sa health center dahil napakalayo at napakalaking bagay,” President Marcos said.

“Kaya po, ang aming naiisip ay imbes na antayin natin ang mga nagkakaroon ng karamdaman na makapunta sa mga ospital, dadalhin po natin sa kanila ang serbisyo para mayroon silang healthcare kahit sa malalayo,” he added.

The LAB For All is a priority project of the First Lady who was also present during the caravan in Pasig. The project delivers laboratory and

medical services, making healthcare accessible to the people, regardless of their background or geographical location.

Since its inception in May 2023, the LAB for ALL has already visited 35 locations.

“Sinisiguro namin na marami pang mga komunidad sa bawat siyudad at probinsya ang mabibista ng LAB for ALL. Kung saan mayroong Pilipinong nangangailangan, pagsusumikapan natin na ang inyong pamahalaan ay maabutan ng serbisyong ito,” President Marcos said.

Aside from medical services, the LAB for ALL caravan also offers other government services, including scholarship grants by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), the provision of assorted vegetable seeds and fruit tree seedlings by the Department of Agriculture (DA).

The Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP), Department of

Interior and Local Government (DILG), Department of Health (DOH), Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) also extended services to the public during the caravan.

Other agencies that participated included the Land Transportation Office (LTO), National Housing Authority (NHA), Pag-IBIG, Public Attorney’s Office (PAO), Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO), and the Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth).

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Thursday vowed to further strengthen the healthcare system in the country and bring medical services closer to the people.

In his speech during the “Libreng Laboratoryo, Konsulta, at Gamot Para sa Lahat (LAB For ALL)” caravan in Pasig City, President Marcos said the government, through the Department of Health (DOH), will continue providing accessible medical care services to Filipinos especially those in Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Areas (GIDAs).

“Sa pangunguna ng Department of Health, patuloy po tayo sa pagpapatupad ng mga proyekto upang magkaroon ng rural health unit, doktor, nurse, ambulansya, mobile health clinic, at ibang

mga kagamitan ang lahat ng lalawigan sa bansa, lalo na ‘yung ating napag-usapan

nga ‘yung mga GIDA,” President Marcos said.

The President also said the DOH launched its “Bagong Urgent Care and Ambulatory Service Centers” providing preventive, diagnostic, and curative primary care services across the country.

“Nagtatayo rin po tayo [ng] specialty centers sa bawat rehiyon ayon sa Republic Act No. 11959, o ang tinatawag na Regional Specialty Centers Act…Kasabay nito, nagpapamahagi rin tayo ng mga mobile primary care facilities (PCFs),” the President said.
President Marcos said the administration aims to provide mobile PCFs to all

While the government exhausts all efforts to ensure accessible medical services for all, the President said this can only be achieved if every Filipino helps the administration attain its goal for the country’s healthcare system.

The President extended his gratitude to private sectors that donated healthcare facilities, the Metrobank and Toyota foundations, the local government units and the Filipinos for supporting the government’s initiative.

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. is scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting with South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol at Malacañan Palace in Manila on Oct. 7.

Malacañang announced Thursday that Yoon will embark on a state visit to the Philippines from Oct. 6 to 7 upon Marcos’ invitation.

“The two Leaders will hold a bilateral meeting to discuss areas of mutual interest such as cooperation in the political, security and defense, maritime, economic and development fields, people-to-people ties, as well as labor and consular matters,” the Palace said in a statement:

Malacañang said Marcos and Yoon are also expected to exchange views on regional and international issues.

In a decision written by Associate Justice Amy C. Lazaro-Javier, the Supreme Court’s Second Division reversed the ruling of the Court of Appeals (CA) which had dismissed the criminal case for parricide against Dalia, who remains at large.

Records showed that In 2014, Enzo was driving a truck to Clark, Pampanga, together with his mechanic, Paolo Salazar. After the truck came to a stop at the intersection of Visayas Avenue and Congressional Avenue, a man approached the driver’s side of the truck and shot Enzo, killing him.

The prosecution charged Police Officer 2 Edgar Angel, as the gunman, and Domingo De Guzman III and Dalia as masterminds in the killing. Angel and De

The Supreme Court on Thursday said it has upheld the finding of probable cause and reinstated the arrest warrant and hold departure order against Dalia Guerrero Pastor as a co-conspirator in the killing of her husband, award-winning racer car driver Ferdinand “Enzo” Pastor.

Guzman were arrested.

Dalia went to the CA to question the charges against her.

The CA ruled in Dalia’s favor and dismissed the charge of parricide for lack of probable cause after Angel failed to identify her as the mastermind of the plot to kill her husband.

The CA also said even if Dalia knew the agreement between Angel and De Guzman, this was not enough to prove that she conspired with them.

In reversing the CA decision, the Supreme Court ruled that a finding of probable cause needs only evidence showing that, more likely than not, a crime has been committed by the suspects.

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Thursday assured that the government is closely monitoring the Taal Volcano eruption.

He said the government is following standard operating procedures amid the changing behavior of the volcano.

Reports said the volcano erupted Wednesday afternoon. However, the President said he was informed by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) that the volcano’s eruption is still manageable.

On the sidelines of the LAB for ALL caravan in Pasig City, President Marcos told the Malacañang Press Corps that all concerned government agencies are on top of the situation to ensure public safety.

“We have SOPs in place. We have standard [operating] procedures. Everybody, when the volcano erupts, or the storm comes, or magkalindol or whatever, they know what to do,” President Marcos said in referring to concerned government agencies.

asked about the government’s response to the volcano’s eruption.

“What we have to do is monitor the situation and continue to see where are the areas kasi not every situation is the same. So, how do we adjust? Where are the areas that need special attention, where are the areas that are okay. So, ‘yun ang ginagawa namin ngayon,” he added.
